Six vehicle motorway crash miraculously ends up with no injuries

Six drivers had miracle escapes after their cars were involved in a horror motorway pile-up this morning.

Highways England have released dramatic pictures of the mangled cars involved in smash on the M58 this morning.

The motorway was closed for several hours from around 7am this morning due to the multi-vehicle accident between J3 A570 Rainford Road (Bickerstaffe) and J4 A5068 Glenburn Road (Skelmersdale).

Up to six cars were said to be involved in the smash which saw one car land on its roof, two leave the carriageway and damaged barriers.

These shocking  pictures of the aftermath of the crash show one car overturned and others badly damaged.

But despite the wreckage, nobody was seriously hurt.

Highways England tweeted around 9am that: "One lane remains closed whilst the recovery operation is underway. Amazingly, this collision was non-injury."

North West Ambulance Service also conformed nobody was seriously injured.

A spokeswoman said: " "We were called at 6.23am and attended with two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle.
"We've treated six patients altogether, all for minor injuries. Three have gone to hospital and three have not."

Even with two lanes reopened, motorists were warned that there were still two miles of tailbacks.

The motorway was reopened around 9.30am.

One motorist caught up in the closure: “I haven’t moved for over an hour. Just past the St Helens turn off. Gagging for a brew.”

Another said: “Traffic unmoving for over an hour. At least 12 emergency vehicles gone past.”

Highways England had said the crash involved “multiple vehicles in the carriageway, as well as a vehicle on its roof the embankment”.

There were also long delays due to an earlier accident on the M6 Northbound between J26 M58 (Orrell Interchange) and J27 A5209 Crow Orchard Road (Standish). Congestion to J25 (Bryn).
