Drivers given £100 fine at car park where pay machine was out of use

Drivers were hit with £100 fines after parking their vehicles in a Nottingham car park where the pay machine was not working, it has been claimed.

The motorists have also said they left notes on their windscreens explaining the situation at Halifax Place, near the Lace Market, which can be used to park on weekends.

The incidents are said to have happened on Saturday, January 15 and phone numbers were also left by the park users so they could be contacted to pay.

Claire Lambert, 51, an admin manager from Gedling, was among those who parked at the site over the weekend and has appealed her fine.

She said: "It's where I usually park, it's close to where I want to be which is the Marks and Spencers.

"It's small and convenient - I use it often. I parked at 12 and came back at 12:30 to a parking charge.

"I was more upset because you feel like you're being scammed. It isn't right.

"Before I went I looked at all the other notes on the car and thought it must be okay - obviously they all got ticketed aswell."

Mrs Lambert sent her appeal off on Monday, January 17.

She added: "At the end of the day they might not admit to it but it's just annoying.

"Hopefully they'll come back and say sorry.

"I just want it sorted."

If the fine is paid in 14 days the price drops to £60.

Carol Denunzio, 59, a retired midwife from Derby, also uses the car park to go shopping in Nottingham.

She said: "We've parked there before and never had any problems, it's been convenient, it's great.

"We parked at 10.30am and the pay machine wasn't in use.

"We wrote a note on the windscreen - no-one tried to call us, we were very shocked.

"I think it's just really mean - I don't know if we will use it in the future.

"Once bitten twice shy."

Nottinghamshire Live called the contact details given at the site and we were told the car park was sub let to a company called CPS Midlands Ltd.

A spokesperson for the company declined to comment on the incidents.
