Drivers found using expired badges to park for free in Nottingham

Drivers have been warned they could be prosecuted after some motorists were found using inadequate blue badges to park in the city centre at evening time.

It is after multiple vehicles were spotted by enforcement officers in the span of a few hours on Tuesday evening (October 19).

Now it has emerged that no less than than five individuals have been caught in Nottingham so far this week using lost or expired permits.

Two of the motorists were found using permits to park for free following the death of the badge holder.

Local authorities said that the blue badges aim to make travel easier for people with disabilities and should not be used.

If they are no longer required after three years, they should be returned.

A City Council spokesperson said: “Blue badges are issued to help make travel easier for people with disabilities, and if they are no longer required after three years, they should be returned.

"The use of a dead person’s badge is an appalling misuse of the system and crimes like this impact significantly on genuine users. We are actively targeting blue badge misuse and will continue to crack down on those breaking the law.

“If anyone visits the city and fraudulently misuses a cancelled badge, they are likely to be caught. This can result in us issuing a penalty charge notice, removing the vehicle or prosecuting them.”
