Drivers forced to slam on brakes as overtaking car almost causes pile-up

An "idiot" driver "came out of nowhere" and nearly caused a serious crash.

The footage above shows how an overtaking driver at the wheel of a black car pulled out to overtake at least two vehicles on a single carriageway A-road.

But as they accelerated on the wrong side of the road past one car – whose quick-thinking driver slams on their brakes – they are forced to brake and violently cut back in to avoid a head-on smash with a car coming the other way.

The incident happened on Thursday on the A499 towards Pwllheli .

The near-miss was captured by a driver on dashcam at around 4.50pm who said he was left furious.

Speaking to North Wales Live he said: "He nearly killed himself and others, narrowly missing an oncoming car.

"What an idiot. It's not the first time I've seen this driver passing numerous cars like a maniac.

"This infuriated me. I have seen the devastation first-hand which is the results of idiots like this.

"I would have gone straight to the police if the video was clear."

According to the driver of the car with the dash cam there were more than a dozen cars in a convoy and "there was no point" trying to overtake.

"He came from nowhere therefore I'm not sure how many cars were behind me.

"He was lucky both cars swerved to the kerb each side to allow him to pass between them.

"We were in a long traffic of over 15 cars. There was no point trying to pass as all he gained was two cars."
