Drivers face more disruption as road remains closed for nearly a year

An East Kilbride road will remain closed for almost another year as part of plans to create thousands of new homes and a primary school.

Newlands Road is closed between Jackton Road and No 68 Newlands Road until March 2022.

It is associated with works to develop the massive East Kilbride Community Growth Area (EKCGA) near Jackton, which will see the upgrading, reconstruction and installation of public utility apparatus on Newlands Road.

Once complete, the 19.1-acre growth area development plan will see an additional 2500 homes – 25 per cent will meet affordable housing guidelines– as well as public green space and play areas.

There will also be retail units and a new purpose-built primary school.

Last November work started on the infrastructure for the major development with the construction of an access road between Jackton and Eaglesham.
