(Image: NQ)

TRAFFIC on a key road in Orkney has been disrupted after "reports of a bus on fire".

The A965 – usually serving as a dual carriageway – has been reduced to single-lane traffic.

Police Scotland has urged drivers to use an alternative route following Old Finstown Road.

Emergency services are attending the scene of the incident, which is understood to be around two miles west of Kirkwall.

In a statement, Police Scotland said: "The A965, two miles west of Kirkwall, Orkney, is down to a single carriageway following a report of a bus on fire.

"Emergency services are in attendance while the bus is recovered.

"Motorists are asked to use the Old Finstown Road as an alternative route."
