Driving can be expensive, with the cost of fuel, insurance premiums, and car payments, but did you know you could face a £2,500 fine for breaking a little-known rule?
Worse yet, you could be given a three-month jail term if you don't pay up - so you better be aware that there are some places you can park long term, and some you can't.
The Refuse Disposal Act of 1978 states that the driver of a vehicle deemed abandoned can be issued a fixed penalty notice, and the rules applies to private roads too.
If you are prosecuted, this could lead to a huge fine and potentially jail time, plus fees for the removal and storage of the 'abandoned' vehicle.

The news comes after two men were ordered to pay more than £3,000 in fines and costs for abandoning vehicles on a residential street in a Gloucestershire town.
Two vehicles had been left on separate occasions stretching across six months.
Marcell Banton of Hathaway Close, Gloucester, was prosecuted by Cheltenham Borough Council for abandoning a vehicle on a private residential street, fined £388 and ordered to pay full court costs of £944.98 and a victim surcharge of £38 taking the full total to £1,370.98.
Keith Musarurwa of Lyndale Road, Leicester, was prosecuted by the same authority for abandoning two vehicles on Kensington Avenue, Cheltenham.
The first offence took place in September 2021 and the second in February 2022 when the second vehicle was deemed to be abandoned in the same location.

Meanwhile, drivers have been left baffled after discovering a new feature of their car doors - which they had no idea about.
A woman went viral after revealing the feature on TikTok - and racked up more than 22 million views as she showed off the tiny hole in the car door.
In the video, filmed by Sarah Blackbourn, she says she was made aware after researching why her sister's car sounded like it had water in it.
After removing the plug, water comes pouring out - and someone says "Please drain your doors. Drain your doors people… c’mon.”
Many commentators were taken by surprise by the video, as many asked if it was real.
