Drivers could be taken to court after 'ignoring' Staple Hill road closure

Drivers could be taken to court after ignoring a road closure in Staple Hill. Teewell Hill, which turns off Broad Street opposite the Page Park entrance, was closed for roadworks on July 25 and will not open again until August 19.

But according to Avon and Somerset police, drivers have been ignoring the closure and could now end up in court. An update on the South Gloucestershire Neighbourhood Policing page on July 10 said: "Teewell Hill in Staple Hill is currently closed due to road works.

"Please be reminded that contravening a road closure sign is an offence. Officers will be carrying out patrols and enforcing the law, throughout the duration of the works, if caught ignoring the road closure."

And a further update later that day said: "Officers have been carrying out patrols and have spoken to many motorists who were ignoring the road closure signs. Many were cooperative and given words of advice, but others received warnings and a few are being considered for court proceedings."

The road has been closed for essential gas main replacement work, according to South Gloucestershire Council. The council says that signed diversions have been in place for the duration of the work.
