THE conditions of both drivers involved in a horrific head-on crash at Wyee on Saturday morning appear to be improving, health officials say. A 37-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman had both been taken to John Hunter Hospital on Saturday in critical condition after their cars collided on Wyee Road about 9.30am.

The man, who was the sole occupant of a Jeep, was trapped for an hour before being released, while the woman, who was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe with a 13-year-old boy in the passenger seat, was also trapped. The boy, 13, was not trapped but sustained a suspected broken arm.

A Hunter New England Health spokesman said on Sunday morning that the male driver's condition was now considered stable, while the female driver was considered serious but stable.
