Drivers caught filming M4 lorry fire on phones facing prosecution

Twelve drivers are facing prosecution - after filming a lorry fire on the M4 using their mobile phones.

Huge traffic delays were caused yesterday as a result of the lorry fire on the motorway near Swindon.

Closures were put in place while emergency crews battled the blaze.

However those wanting to film and take pictures of the fire have landed themselves in hot water.

Police say a number of vehicles ended up striking traffic cones at the scene while trying to capture footage.

The tweet from Wiltshire Police (Wiltshire Police)

In a tweet Wiltshire Police said: “Following the lorry fire on the M4, a number of vehicles ended up striking the cones on the road too busy staring and filming the burnt lorry.

“Due to a few near misses 12 drivers can now expect to hear from us for being on their mobile phone.”

Two lanes of the M4 eastbound between junction 15 Swindon East and Membury Services Services remained closed this morning while repairs take place.
