Driverless pickup almost kills kids

Panicking passengers, including children, were forced to jump from a moving pickup truck as it rolled across a road and into a canal on Sunday in Khon Kaen province after the female driver left the vehicle earlier to withdraw money from an ATM.

A clip of the incident, which occurred at a petrol station in tambon Sok Nok Ten of Phon district, went viral on social media on Monday night.

Wuthichai Muensriprom claims to have recorded the incident at around 11.30am.

The woman driver stopped the pickup on a sloping exit from the petrol station and went to get some cash, leaving the engine on. There was a woman passenger in the front seat and three children aged 4-5 years in the back.

The vehicle then slowly rolled across the road into some shrubbery and ended up in an almost dry roadside canal.

"While the truck was moving, a woman opened the door and jumped out. Three children aged four or five also jumped out of the back. Luckily no other vehicle was passing by and no-one was severely hurt," Mr Wuthichai said.
