Driver with no insurance tries to convince police with cancelled policy email after being stopped

A driver from Droylsden has been reported and fined after he accidentally read out his insurance cancellation email when stopped by police.

Officers stopped the driver on Sunday evening (September 5) after he was seen ‘loitering’ in the Cheetham Hill area.

It was later discovered that the man was not insured for the vehicle he was driving in.

In an attempt to show police proof of his insurance, the driver read out an email about his policy.

But, he seemed not to realise the email was informing him that his insurance had been cancelled due to non-payment.

The details of the incident were shared on the GMP Tameside North and East Facebook page, which said: “A driver from Droylsden was found by #TransportUnit officers loitering around the Cheetham Hill district last night.

“After officers checked him out it transpired he was not insured for the vehicle.

“He tried to show he was insured by showing officers the emails from his insurer.

“However, if he had read the email correctly he would have noticed that the email was actually advising him that his policy had been cancelled due to non payment.”

The man has subsequently been reported and will receive six points on his licence.

He also received a £300 fine and the vehicle was also seized, which will require a £150 minimum fee to reclaim once the driver has insurance.
