A motorist has been arrested after he was caught travelling along a motorway with no front tyres.
The man was pulled over by Greater Manchester Police traffic officers on the M66 after they noticed he was “struggling to drive”.
On closer inspection, the officers realised the man’s car was missing its two front tyres.
Police say it was “no surprise” when the driver blew 196 during a roadside breath test – almost six times over the limit.
The legal limit in England and Wales is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
Sharing images of the car on Twitter in the early hours of New Year's Day, North West Motorway Police described it as “unbelievable”.
The force added: “Male been detained for drink drive on the M66 – has blown 196 (YES THAT’S 196!!) at the roadside – as you can see from the photos you can see why it came to our notice.”
In August, police stopped a man driving a homemade car made out of a motorbike, plastic, fibreglass and wood along the M25.
A police officer said the three-wheeled vehicle was the “most unusual” they had stopped on a motorway in 26 years.
But unlike the car without tyres pulled over on New Year’s Eve, officers discovered the vehicle was road legal and allowed the driver on his way.
