Driver with 3 kids stopped by police was heading to Brighton "as they were bored"

A family driving to Brighton amid the coronavirus lockdown told police they were "bored and wanted some fresh air."

The brazen motorist was driving while on the phone with two children and a baby in the car, none of whom were wearing seatbelts.

When stopped at Clacket Lane Services in Kent, police discovered the driver was also uninsured and driving without a licence.

The car was loaded onto the back of a truck near Sevenoaks.

Kent's road policing unit branded the incident inappropriate on Monday.

A spokesperson tweeted: "Stopped at Clacket Lane Services. No insurance. None licence holder. On phone. Two under 12's unrestrained. One baby unrestrained.

"En-route to Brighton for a day out as bored of being in and wanted some fresh air. #NotReallyAppropriate #StayHomeSaveLives."

It isn't the first case of Brits flouting the lockdown guidance since coronavirus shut the country down.

Earlier this month, in just one example, a family was fined for attempting a 200 mile fishing trip during lockdown.

The family from London was caught by Devon and Cornwall police at around 5am.

Police said had they had left their home in the capital  with the bright idea of heading all the way to the south coast despite repeated warnings to only travel if absolutely necessary.
