A driver who took his pregnant wife to hospital for a scan came outside to discover his van had been stolen from the car park.
Ayrshire Live can reveal the stunned couple emerged from Ayr Hospital on Friday afternoon to discover the white Ford Transit van had been nicked.
Police – who on Saturday claimed the vehicle had been recovered – have now admitted this is not the case and they remain on the hunt for the vehicle.
A Ford Fiesta car was also stolen from the hospital grounds on the same day and it has also yet to be found.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.40pm on Friday, February 12 officers received report of a Ford Transit van stolen from the car park at University Hospital Ayr. The van remains outstanding and enquiries are ongoing."
They added: “Around 7.40pm on Friday, February 12, officers received report of a Ford Fiesta car stolen from the car park at University Hospital Ayr.
"The car remains outstanding and enquiries are ongoing.”
