A motorist has been hailed a ‘hero’ after pulling up behind a police speed camera and blocking its view with his car boot.
The driver of a grey Porsche pulled his car up behind a police van that had a speed camera attached to it, pulled open the boot and walked off to a local pub, leaving the camera unable to catch speeding drivers.
The man was snapped by a bystander in Hemel Hempstead, who shared the photo on social media, writing: “Someone just parked in front of a speed camera, lifted his boot so nobody could get caught speeding. Then went to the pub across the road.”
Almost 2 million people viewed the post on photo-sharing site Imgur, with many of them complimenting the mystery driver for his prank, thanking him for preventing the camera for spotting lawbreakers.
But some users described the man as ‘childish’, adding that the van was parked on a residential street and was intended to save lives.
Hundreds of people commented on the post, with users from the US confused as to what a ‘boot’ was and how it could block a camera, with one commenting: “My Top Gear training informs me that my car wears a bonnet and a boot.”
The identity of the driver is unknown, but it is believed there is often a speed camera van parked on the residential street.
