Driver waiting to collect wife from Manchester Airport parks up - on the hard shoulder of the M56

A driver has found himself on the wrong side of the law after choosing a very inappropriate place to wait for his wife's flight to land.

Police went to talk to the driver after spotting a car that had stopped on the hard shoulder of the M56 at Sharston earlier today.

But when they asked him what the emergency was, they discovered there wasn't one.

The driver was in fact waiting to collect his wife from Manchester Airport.

Sharing details on social media, officers wrote: "ME44 came across this driver stopped on the hard shoulder of the M56 at Sharston.

"On checking what the issue was that had caused him to stop there, driver stated he was waiting for his wife to land at Manchester Airport.

"Traffic Offence Report issued. #ForEmergenciesOnly"

Five minutes later, officers discovered another driver who had stopped for a non urgent reason (North West Motorway Police)

It appears that police have had a busy day on the M56 as just a few minutes later, they discovered a private hire car had also stopped on the hard shoulder for a non urgent reason.

When they talked to the driver, they discovered they had stopped just to take a phone call.

Police added: "ME44 got 5 minutes down the M56 and found this private hire on the H/S of the airport spur again we stopped to see what the emergency was!

"No emergency, stopped to take a phone call. Traffic Offence Report issued".

It's by no means the first time a driver has ended up in hot water for stopping on the M56 when there isn't an emergency.

Last year, a motorist tried to pick his family up from the hard shoulder because he didn't want to pay parking fees at the airport.
