Driver tries to avoid parking fees at Manchester Airport by picking family up on motorway hard shoulder

Let's face it, airport parking fees are never a good thing. Even just a quick drop off outside the terminal doors will leave you out of pocket.

With summer here once again, parking at the airport is another box to tick off on the expense list for the trip abroad. Yet at Manchester Airport, one driver's attempts to save a few pennies went a step too far.

Instead of just moaning about it like the rest of us, this driver decided to take things into his own hands, as reported in the Manchester Evening News.

The driver of this Audi S3 still agreed to pick up their family, instead from the hard shoulder of the airport slip road, in an attempt to avoid paying £4.50.

A savvy idea you might think, except the driver was caught and found to have illegal plates and no insurance. The crafty driver was spotted by motorway police and reported for three offences.

In a tweet from the GMP Traffic account, officers said: "Audi S3 was stopped on hard shoulder of the Airport Spur.

"Driver wanted to avoid parking charges, collecting family. Spoken to by #ME54 who also noticed his illegal plates and checks revealed he also had no insurance.

"Vehicle seized. Reported for all 3 offences."
