Driver travels 112 miles along the motorway during lockdown to pick up gym equipment

A driver has been reported to police after travelling more than 100 miles during lockdown to pick up gym equipment.

The man was stopped by officers from the North West Motorway Police as they patrolled the M56 on Saturday afternoon.

When he was asked about his reasons for leaving the house and travelling during a national lockdown in the midst of a pandemic he admitted that he had travelled 112 miles.

The journey had been made to collect gym equipment and the driver was on his way back when he was stopped.

He has been reported for “unnecessary travel”, NWMP later confirmed.

In a Twitter post on Saturday officers wrote: “A man was stopped on the M56 by a patrol.

“He had travelled 112 miles to collect Gym equipment he was on his return journey. He has been reported for the offence.”
