Driver to stand trial over fatal Vic crash

Katrina Elise Parker will stand trial accused of dangerous driving causing death and other offences. (AAP)

A woman has been committed to stand trial over a crash that left a pedestrian dead in Melbourne's east.

Katrina Elise Parker has pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of Magda Pashley at Ringwood East on February 28 last year.

Parker also faces other charges of careless driving, failing to give way to a pedestrian and another two relating to her alleged failure to remain within the correct lane.

She had been travelling at 20km/h at the time and previously had an impeccable driving record, Melbourne Magistrates Court was told on Wednesday.

Her lawyer, Chris Carr SC, unsuccessfully sought to keep Parker's case at a magistrate's level where the penalties are lower.

But magistrate Graeme Keil found there was enough evidence for Parker to stand trial in Victoria's County Court.

During the hearing, Mr Keil asked Parker how she was coping.

She responded: "It's been a challenging time and I'm seeking support".

Parker remains on bail and is due to appear in the County Court on January 28.
