A driver tested positive following a drugs wipe after their vehicle was stopped by Greater Manchester Police off Junction 5 of the M60.
The motorist was then taken into custody where a further specimen would be provided to determine evidence of any drugs in the person's body.
A tweet posted on the North West Motorway Police's official Twitter account @NWmwaypolice recounted the incident at 1:45am this morning.

It read: "Another stop, this time by #ME48 @gmptraffic Just off J5 M60 Driver taken off the roads for providing a positive road side Drugs wipe now off to custody where they provide a further specimen that will provide evidence of any drug(s) in a person's body #Fatal4 "
In 2019, there was a 20 per cent increase in the number of prosecutions for driving while over the limit for specified controlled drug use in England and Wales, according to a Ministry of Justice report in 2020.
The drug driving prosecutions rose from 9,687 in 2018 to 11,614 in 2019, while the corresponding figures for drink-driving were 33,634 and 34,713, representing an increase of three per cent.
