Driver 'taking friends home' fails breath test after near miss on A666

A motorist was stopped by Greater Manchester Police traffic officers on Sunday evening (8 August) after being spotted driving without lights and nearly colliding with barriers on the A666.

The driver was stopped in his Vauxhall Viva by Raikes Lane, Bolton and blew 121 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath - more than three times the legal drink drive limit - and was duly arrested.

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the alcohol limit for drivers is 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath, or 107 milligrams per 100 millilitres of urine.

Taking to Twitter, the force said: "He said he was just taking his friends home...maybe he should've paid for a taxi for them!"
