A person has been taken to hospital following a collision in Byker.
Emergency services had to close Union Road on Thursday afternoon while they dealt with the two vehicle crash but it has now reopened.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene shortly after 1pm and one driver has been taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
The person's condition is not known at this time.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “At about 1.45pm police received a report of a two-vehicle collision on union Road in Byker.
“Emergency services attended and one of the drivers was taken to hospital by paramedics.
“The road was closed for a short period of time but has since been re-opened.”
A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 1.19pm to reports of a road traffic collision on Union Road.
“We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team.
“We have transported one patient to the RVI.”
