Driver taken to hospital after lorry collides with bollard on Northumberland Street

A driver has been taken to hospital after the lorry he was in seemingly collided with a retractable bollard on a busy city street.

The incident happened near Five Guys burger shop on Newcastle's Northumberland Street at about 8.30am today.

Witnesses said they believed one of the retractable bollards that can be raised and lowered to allow vehicles onto the pedestrianised street could have sprung up as the white lorry was passing.
