Driver taken to hospital after crashing into lamppost during police pursuit in Northumberland

A driver was taken to hospital after reportedly crashing into a parked vehicle and lamppost while fleeing police.

Northumbria Police confirmed the force were engaged in a pursuit in Guide Post, Northumberland , before 1.30am on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson said the driver failed to stop and crashed into a parked car on North Parade and struck a lamppost.

He suffered minor injuries in the crash, and inquiries into the incident remain "ongoing".

The force spokesperson said: "Shortly before 1.30am on Wednesday, police were in pursuit of a vehicle who had failed to stop for officers.

"The car was travelling along North Parade when it collided with a parked vehicle, causing it to hit a lamppost.

"Officers on scene took the driver to hospital after he sustained minor injuries. He has since been discharged.

"No one else was injured in the collision and inquiries are ongoing."
