Driver taken to hospital after Ford Fiesta hits car and wall in Walker

A driver was taken to hospital after a car smash in Walker.

Police say the Ford Fiesta hit a parked car, and then a wall, in Monkchester Road.

An investigation has been launched into the crash which occurred late on Sunday morning.

Paramedics took the driver to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.

While the extent of their injuries have not been made public, they are not thought to be serious.

By noon, witnesses claim four police vehicles - including an armed response team - were at the scene, along with ambulance crews.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson confirmed the armed response team were already in the area, so attended.

They added that enquiries into the circumstances of the collision are "ongoing".

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Monkchester Road in Newcastle yesterday at 11.41am.

"We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and transported one patient to the RVI."
