Driver taken to hospital after being assaulted with hammers and knives before having car stolen

Two teenage boys have been arrested after a driver was assaulted with hammers and knives before having his car stolen in Bolton.

Police were called out to reports of a Skoda Fabia being stolen on Brook Street, Farnworth, at around 7.30pm on Tuesday (September 7).

Greater Manchester Police says that the owner of the car, a man in his 20s, was assaulted with hammers and knives and had his wallet stolen.

The offenders, two males and two females, then fled the scene in the victim's Skoda. He suffered minor injuries and attended hospital for treatment.

Officers made two arrests in connection with the theft on Wednesday and were able to recover the stolen car, after being called out to another incident in Bolton.

A spokesperson for GMP added: "The following day, police received a report around 4.45pm that three males were jumping on a parked vehicle on Stephens Street, Bolton.

"Following vehicle checks it was confirmed to be the vehicle that had been reported stolen the previous day.

"The males fled the scene on foot but one male, aged 17, was swiftly detained by officers. A key for the stolen vehicle was also recovered by officers nearby to where he was detained.

"A further foot chase ensued and officers were subsequently able to detain a 14-year-old male close to Bury Road.

"Both males were arrested on suspicion of robbery and released on police bail. The Skoda was also recovered."

Police are continuing their enquiries and any witnesses are being urged to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police by calling 101, quoting incident number 2234 of September 8, 2021.
