Driver taken to Glasgow hospital after serious crash sees car career down embankment

Police have launched an appeal for witness after a car appeared to lose control on a road and careered down an embankment at the weekend.

The incident involved a black Vauxhall Astra travelling on the B7078 Carlisle Road near Blackwood in South Lanarkshire around 1pm on Saturday (September 11). After leaving the road, the car came to rest on an embankment south of Draffan Road.

Following the crash, the 41-year-old male driver was taken by ambulance to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment. The road had to be closed for several hours to allow crash scene investigators access to the site to conduct enquiries.

A police investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the collision.

Enquiries carried out so far have established a white car was on the road at the time of the incident and officers are appealing for the driver and occupants of this car to contact them.

PC Milloy said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this collision who have yet to speak to us. In particular, we would like to speak to the occupants of a white vehicle which initially stopped at the scene but drove off before police arrival, we would ask the driver and occupants of this car to contact us.”

Anyone with information or who may have dash cam footage is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 regarding incident 1890 of Saturday 11 September, 2021.
