Driver suffers life-threatening injuries in I-55 shooting

A 30-year-old Chicago man suffered life-threatening injuries in a shooting early Sunday morning on the Stevenson Expressway.

About 1:00 a.m., someone in a vehicle traveling south on I-55 near Pulaski Road fire shots, Illinois State Police said.

The 30-year-old was driving when he was struck by gunfire, causing him to veer off the roadway and crash into the concrete median wall on the left side, before coming to rest on the left shoulder, state police said.

He was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to state police.

Three other adults traveling in his vehicle were unharmed, state police said.

All lanes were shut down until about 3:50 a.m., state police said.
