A driver was taken to hospital with serious head injuries after a multi-vehicle crash closed the A1 for several hours.
Emergency services was called to the crash involving a Ford Focus, Vauxhall Mokka and a truck just after 4.30pm on Monday.
The road was closed in both directions near Causey Park, Morpeth , with some drivers halted on the road.
The driver of the Ford Focus had become trapped in their car and had to be rescued by firefighters from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service.

The Great North Air Ambulance flew in from Durham Tees Valley Airport just before 5pm and helped to treat the person on the scene.
The driver was then taken by ambulance to the A&E department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle after suffering head injuries.
Three fire engines and a Specialist Rescue Unit were called to the crash, as well as an ambulance.
Northumbria Police officers closed the road and drivers were diverted via the A697 Longhorsley heading north and via West Chevington heading south.
The road was reopened at around 8.45pm.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At about 4.40pm April 29, police received a report of a collision on the A1 near Causey Park, Morpeth.
"It was reported a Ford Focus, Vauxhall Mokka and a truck had collided.
"Traffic was temporarily diverted whilst emergency services attended.
"The driver of the Ford Focus was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening at this time."
