Driver stopped on M56 near Manchester Airport to 'sort out their sat nav'

A driver travelling from Manchester Airport picked one of the worst possible places to sort out their sat nav.

Police found the grey Nissan Qashaqai on hard shoulder of the M56.

They checked the vehicle to see why it was stopped by the side of the busy stretch.

The driver said they had stopped on the hard shoulder after picking passengers up from nearby Manchester Airport.

As they embarked on their journey, they stopped on the hard shoulder to enter directions into their sat nav.

After being spoken to by officers, police issued a traffic offence report.

An image of the car stopped on the M56 has since been shared by North West Motorway Police today (December 27) to warn other drivers against the risky move.

In a post on Twitter, a spokesperson for North West Motorway Police said: "Driver stopped on the hard shoulder M56 Manchester Airport after collecting passengers from a flight.

"Stopped to enter directions to Liverpool into a sat nav.

"TOR [traffic offence report] issued by our ME41 [officers]."

It's not the only incident on a Greater Manchester motorway that has left cops stunned today.

A taxi driver was seen walking on the M67 in Tameside as he tried to recover his vehicle's magnetic sign from the central reservation.

Police said they were in 'disbelief' at the driver's 'stupidity'.
