A driver whose car was stopped by police ran off leaving his girlfriend behind to find her own way home.

Ormskirk and Rural West Lancashire Police have posted a message on social media revealing how a driver ran off last night after a patrol stopped three cars in the area.

Two of the cars were being driven without insurance and one of the drivers was disqualified from driving.

The driver of a blue car ran off, leaving his girlfriend behind. Police have said they will be visiting the driver who ran off soon.

All three cars were seized, police have said.

Police have not revealed the location of the incident.

The message read: "While many of us were tucked up in our beds last night, team two, led by the tenacious Sgt Scotty, have been busy.

"The driver of the silver car was disqualified from driving and uninsured. The white car was being driven without insurance and the driver of the blue car showed his chivalry by running off leaving his girlfriend behind to find her own way home.

"All three vehicles have been seized making our roads safer and the third driver can expect a visit from team very soon."
