Driver stopped by police during lockdown admitted he'd gone out to buy cannabis

A driver who was stopped by police during a national lockdown admitted he had gone out to buy cannabis.

Muhammad Shahbaz, 36, was pulled over by traffic officers in February this year on Edge Lane in Trafford.

At the time, the whole country was in the midst of a third national lockdown, which meant people were only allowed to leave their home for certain reasons.

After being stopped by police, Shahbaz told officers he'd 'just bought some cannabis.'

He was later found to be driving under the influence of drugs.

Appearing at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court, Shahbaz, from Stretford pleaded guilty to drug driving.

He was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £250.

In a post on Twitter, GMP Traffic said: "Muhammad Shahbaz, aged 36, of Moss Road, Stretford pleaded guilty at court to drug driving from February 2021.

"When asked why he was out during 'lockdown' he was relaxed enough to admit to Transport Unit he'd 'just bought some cannabis...'

"He's now banned for 12 months and fined £250."
