A driver is still fighting for his life a day after crashing into a tree off the A189 Spine Road.
Emergency services were scrambled to the northbound carriageway near Annitsford on Tuesday morning.
A silver Nissan Navara came off the road and collided with a tree. The driver was rushed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, and Northumbria Police confirmed on Wednesday morning he remains in a critical condition.
The road was closed northbound from the A1056 roundabout to the Annitsford roundabout near the Northumberland border until about 7.45am.
