A driver was stabbed in the chest and slashed in his face during a shocking attack while he sat in his car.
The assault happened at 7pm last night when the victim was parked on Grangemoor in Runcorn in his silver Ford Fiesta.
The armed suspect approached his vehicle, smashed his window and launched the sudden knifing.
The 43-year-old was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
The victim believes he may have been followed by a dark coloured vehicle, which could be linked to the incident.
Police are in the area this morning and are keen to speak to anyone who may have been nearby at the time, and who saw anything suspicious.
In particular, there may have been passers-by or cars driving past who could have captured the incident on their dashcam.
