Driver six times over limit charged: car ended up in garden bed

A MAN has been charged with high-range drink driving, allegedly being caught behind the wheel almost six times over the legal limit after mounting a kerb and coming to a stop in a garden bed.

About 4.30pm on Sunday Port Stephens police received reports of a Izuzu D-Max utility being driven erratically through Tanilba Bay.

Police said a member of the public approached the vehicle after it mounted the kerb in a car park on President Wilson Walk.

The keys were removed from the ignition of the ute and police were notified.

Officers attended a short time later and spoke with the driver, a 49-year-old Mallabula man. The driver underwent a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result.

He was arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace police station where he underwent a breath analysis which allegedly returned a reading of 0.288.

He was issued with a Court Attendance Notice for high-range drink driving. His licence was also suspended.

The man is due to face Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday, January 11, 2021.

In a separate incident about 1.40am Tuesay police were patrolling the Hamilton area when they stopped a Holden Commodore for a roadside breath test.

The male driver provided a positive result before being arrested and taken to Newcastle police station. He underwent a secondary test and returned a result of 0.149.

The driver had his licence suspended on-the-spot and has been issued a court attendance notice for mid-range drink driving where he will appear in Newcastle Local Court in January.
