Driver seriously injured as thieves snatch van for store raid in West Lothian

A van driver was seriously injured when thieves stole his vehicle and used it to try to raid a shop in West Lothian.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the driver was found lying in the road in Harthill on Saturday morning.

The blue Iveko van was stolen at around 5.40am in the West Main Street area before being driven around five miles to Armadale.

It was then used in an attempted break-in at a shop that backs onto Ochilview Square at 6.10am before being found abandoned in the Forrester Road area of the town.

The van driver was taken to Wishaw General Hospital with serious injuries where he remains in a stable condition.

Police Scotland want to speak to anyone who may have seen the van.

Detective Sergeant Derrick Lunan, of Wishaw CID, said: “The van driver was seriously injured during the theft and we would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened as well as any suspicious activity beforehand.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who saw this van being driven around at that time in the morning and after the incident at the store before it was then abandoned.

“If you have information that will help our enquiries please call Police Scotland."
