Driver seriously injured after three-car crash brings down electrical pole

Police are appealing for information after three cars were involved in crashes on a Powys road.

One of the cars involved hit an electricity pole which caused a power cut in nearby properties.

It happened on the A458 between Welshpool and Middletown at around 11.20pm on Friday (January 24).

Dyfed Powys Police said a blue Citroen Saxo was driving from Welshpool towards Shrewsbury when it collided with a red Fiat 500 on the oncoming lane. The Fiat hit the electrical pole.

A short time later, a silver Renault Clio ravelling from the Welshpool direction collided with the front of the Saxo.

The driver of the Saxo was serious injured in the crash. The driver and passengers in the Fiat were taken to hospital with injuries which are being assessed.

Police said they want to speak to any witnesses who were in the area at the time.

A spokesman said: "A serious collision took place, and we’d like to speak to witnesses or anyone with information that could help establish the circumstances."

The road was closed for several hours as police investigated the crash and the electricity pole was fixed.

Anyone who saw any of the three vehicles before the incident, particularly anyone with dash cam footage, is asked to get in touch with Dyfed-Powys Police. Call 101, quoting reference 395 of January 24
