A Methven resident has spoke of his relief, after overgrown grass which was “endangering drivers” has been cut back.
Jim Begg, of Sauchob Crescent, had raised fears the bankings on Strathview onto Lyndoch Road in Methven encroached onto the road to such an extent it became a hazard to road users.
However, after council workers intervened to trim back the grass on Sunday, July 14, Mr Begg feels it will put road users’ minds at ease.
He said: “The grass was about eight foot high.
“I felt sorry for the locals who lived near it.
“There was an accident on the road, not a serious one, but still a car accident because of the bankings.
“Even at a 30 mile area it is still dangerous.
“It was finally cut last Sunday and it is a relief.
“It is the first time they have been cut this year and it was even worse last year.
“It took them three weeks to do it after it was mentioned to them - but I am pleasantly surprised its now done.
“I was starting to think ‘we will have to put up with it’.
“The difference it makes is unbelievable. It looks better and much safer.”
A spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council said: “The council’s grounds maintenance contractors are currently carrying out verge cutting throughout Perth and Kinross.
“All ‘A’ roads are now complete, along with the majority of ‘B’ roads.
“Work on minor local roads is underway and due for completion by July 29 2019.
“Every effort is made to cut all verges at the optimum growth height within the growing season.
“The visibility issues at this location will be raised with the contractor working in the Methven area and they will be asked to ensure this is dealt with at the earliest opportunity in the interests of public safety.”
