Driver's lucky escape after car overturns in Burnopfield in County Durham

A woman has had a lucky escape after her car flipped over in County Durham.

Emergency services were called to Front Street in Burnopfield following a collision just before 7am on Tuesday.

The car involved had overturned and the driver was trapped inside, meaning firefighters had to cut her free.

The woman was not seriously injured and was assessed by paramedics at the scene.

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: "We were called at 6.40am today to reports of a one-vehicle collision in which a car had overturned on Front Street, in Burnopfield.

"Paramedics and firefighters also attended as the driver was trapped in her car. Thankfully she did not suffer any serious injuries.

"The road was closed to allow for recovery of the vehicle, but has since reopened."

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 6.38am to a female patient who was injured in Burnopfield.

"We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and one Hazardous Area Response Team but the crews were stood down at the scene after the patient declined treatment.

"They were assessed on scene and discharged with advice from the crews."
