Driver's incredible escape as truck flips and falls 70ft after hitting snow bank

Shocking footage shows the terrifying moment a pickup truck flipped before plummeting 70 feet onto the road below after the driver lost control in snow.

Incredibly the man at the wheel survived the horror fall, which happened on an interchange in Milwaukee at the weekend.

It is thought a bank of snow caused the vehicle to skid, but amazingly it landed upright and passers-by rushed to help the driver.

Milwaukee County's Director of Highways and Maintenance Eddie Santiago told  WISN : "The biggest risk with that is the melting and the freezing creates sort of a ramp, a natural ramp.

"The snow is as hard as concrete so a lot of our equipment is out there, basically chipping away at the, literally chipping away at the snow and ice to get that removed."

The driver was taken to hospital, but is understood to have avoided serious injury.

Authorities say the red truck appeared to already be in a slide when roadside cameras picked it up.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) released footage of the near tragedy, which happened at the Zoo Interchange at around 10am on Saturday.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office responded to I-94 east of I-41 in the Zoo Interchange after a truck skidded off the interchange ramp.

Officials say a red pickup truck skidded off the East to the South Zoo Interchange ramp and landed in the direction of the I-94 westbound through traffic.

MCSO said that when deputies arrived, they found the red pickup the right way up and two citizens providing aid to the lone occupant.

The driver was conscious and breathing and incredibly did not show signs of impairment.

MCSO told CBS a preliminary investigation indicated the driver was driving on the ramp from the East to the South in the Zoo Interchange when he lost control of the vehicle.

The car travelled up a snowbank, proceeded over the barrier wall, and descended 70 feet down onto the westbound I-94 distress lane.

The Milwaukee Fire Department arrived on scene and took the driver to a local hospital, MCSO said.
