Driver's fury as neighbour hogs 'first come first served' garage for eight months

Living in a shared apartment space can present many difficulties, whether your neighbour is too loud and stomps their feet or eavesdrops in the common spaces. But one man is furious with his neighbour as she has hogged the shared garage for months on end and does not give him any chance to park his car there.

Both the occupants pay for the shared garage as it is included in their rent price. But as he barely gets an opportunity to park his car there as his neighbour's is always in the way he is not sure if he should be paying for it.

Taking to Reddit, the man, who remained anonymous, explained: "So we are the only two people in this apartment (it's a duplex) and there's a 1 car garage that we both pay for.

"It's first come first serve. It's up a very narrow and steep driveway that turns a corner, so you can't really tell if anyone is already in it until you drive up.

"In nearly 8 months, I've used it once (when she was out of town)."

He went onto explain that his neighbour works from home and rarely leaves the building - only to get food once a week for around half an hour. But when she gets back she goes right back to her usual parking position.

Recently, however, he was given the chance to park his car in the space when he neighbour was out of town but decided to move it after a week or so as he did not want to hog it.

He said: "He moved her car back in the garage. I guess I figured, maybe she didn't realize [sic] I have a car and if she sees that I 'gave up' the garage after a week, she might do that same.

"Her car has been back in the garage for a month since that happened."

In response, many have given their advice as to what he should do in this situation. One person wrote: "I'd be talking to the landlord about a reduction in rent, since there is a substantial part of the property you can't use."

While another said: "Explain to whomever you pay that you don't use it so you're not paying."
