Driver rushed to hospital after two-car crash closes East Kilbride road

A driver had to be cut from his car by firefighters after a two-car smash on West Mains Road in East Kilbride this morning.

The road was closed one-way for several hours following the crash near to the junction with St Kenneth's Primary School just after 9am, with police, the fire service and the ambulance service in attendance.

Those living nearby reported hearing a "loud bang" and then sirens in the immediate aftermath of the accident.

One driver was cut from his car following the accident on West Mains Road (EKN)

Two male drivers - understood to be in Vauxhalls - were involved with the person cut from the vehicle taken to Hairmyres Hospital to be checked but his current condition is unknown.

The second man sustained only minor injuries.

West Mains Road reopened both ways shortly after 1pm.

Police confirmed a report has been made to the fiscal in relation to dangerous driving.
