A driver ran away from an overturned car after it ploughed into a row of garden walls and began spinning in the middle of the road.
Eyewitnesses heard an 'almighty bang' as the Vauxhall smashed into the wall and landed on its roof on Clay Lane in Timperley.
Police were called to the scene at around 9.45am on Friday, and confirmed the driver had disappeared when they arrived.
The crash on the winding country road caused bricks and debris to fly into neighbouring gardens - with the number plate landing in a tree.
One neighbour, who didn't want to be named, said: "We were just going out in the car. We were pulling out in the driveway.
"I heard this almighty bang. I looked in the mirror and saw this car bouncing off the walls, spinning round and round on its roof while sliding down the road. The car was upside down and this guy just crawled out of the window.
"He did a runner so he wasn’t that injured. It was quite frightening really. It’s horrendous this road."
Another neighbour said: "I can't believe it. All our walls have gone. I saw the car, I heard the bang. I thought 'what the hell has gone on?' It came hurtling round the corner and must have lost control. It took all the wall down, hurtled to the opposite side of the road and overturned."
Martin Kirkman, who works at Ridgeway Nurseries, a garden centre round the corner, said: "We heard it all from here. A few minutes later, I heard the sirens."
Investigation launched after woman raped in Oldham in early hours
A GMP spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a vehicle on its roof on Clay Lane shortly before 9.45am this morning.
"The vehicle was a silver Vauxhall Vectra. The d river failed to remain at the scene.
"Enquires are ongoing."
