Driver rescued after car goes into water at Dollymount Strand

A driver was rescued after their car went into the water at a popular north Dublin beach this evening.

The dramatic scenes unfolded on Dollymount Strand shortly after 6pm.

Emergency services, including the Coast Guard and Dublin Fire Brigade, raced to the scene at the Wooden Bridge at Clontarf was closed temporarily.

They managed to pull the motorist from the car, who was taken to hospital but luckily didn't sustain any serious injuries.

Howth Coast Guard said: "Howth Coast Guard were tasked by Dublin MRCC at 18.21 to a report of a car in the water at Dollymount near the wooden bridge.

The team responded along with Dublin Fire Brigade, the National Ambulance Service (NAS) and An Garda Siochana.

"The driver was extracted from the car, treated on scene and removed to hospital. No serious injuries sustained."

Dublin Fire Brigade have been contacted for comment.
