A driver involved in a horror crash with a scrambler bike reportedly ran from the scene as two people were rushed to hospital.
Emergency services were called to Waterpark Drive, in Stockbridge Village, at around 2.30pm on Monday afternoon after reports of a crash between an off-road bike and a car.
Paramedics rushed to help the riders of the bike, understood to be two young males, as an air ambulance landed at the scene.
The riders were taken to Aintree Hospital after suffering major trauma injuries. Their condition is currently unknown.
Pictures taken at the scene show show severe damage to a black car inside a police cordon. A broken windscreen could also be seen.
The damaged scrambler bike was left lying on the floor close to a pedestrian crossing on the main road.
It is understood that after the collision, the driver of the car ran from the crash scene.
This is yet to be confirmed by Merseyside Police.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said: "Officers are currently investigating a report of a road traffic collision on Waterpark Drive, Stockbridge Village this afternoon (20 April).
"We were called to the scene at around 2:30pm to reports that a car and scrambler bike had been involved in a collision.
"Two people believed to have been riding the scrambler bike have been taken to hospital.
"Waterpark Drive and Haswell Drive have been closed. Please avoid the area if you are making any essential trips this afternoon."
A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 14:26 today to and RTC in this area.
"We sent an RRV, an advanced paramedic, two ambulance vehicles and Helimed.
"We took two patients to Aintree hospital via land ambulance with major trauma injuries.
"Police were informed."
