A helpless driver was ploughed into a ditch after a horrific hit and run collision with a 'green 141 Opel Insignia' in Meath yesterday morning.
The person was motoring along the Walterstown road at around 7am when a careless driver coming in the opposition direction forced the crashed car to lose control and go off-road.
The driver of the Insignia failed to remain at the scene as the other car lay smashed in the adjacent ditch.
It is understood that the 141 Opel lost its right wing mirror in the midst of the incident.
Investigating officers are now pleading with anyone who came across the collision and who may know the vehicle's full registration to come forward.
A Garda spokesman said: "A collision occurred where an oncoming vehicle caused a vehicle travelling from Garlow Cross towards Monktown to lose control and end up in the adjacent ditch.
"The offending vehicle failed to remain at scene. On speaking with the other driver, Gardai were informed that this vehicle was a Green Opel Insignia reg 141 and it had lost its right wing mirror during the collision.
He added: "The Gardai are looking for any drivers who were in the vicinity of the collision at the time to assert the full registration number of the offending vehicle.
"If anyone can help please contact the Gardai on 046-9036100."
