Driver pulled over by police for using BMW convertible to transport double bed

A driver who was using her BMW convertible to transport a double bed was pulled over by police in Essex.

Officers said the woman told them the bed was “wedged in the seat, so it’s okay” when they stopped her between Colchester and Basildon.

Using the face-palm emoji to describe the shocking incident, Essex Police said the vehicle was seized over the “insecure load”.

It was also not insured, the force said in a Twitter on Tuesday evening.

Police did not say what action was taken against the driver but causing danger from distribution of load in a car can lead to a £100 fine.

Commenters on the social media post said the driver’s decision to carrying the bed in such a way was “beyond a joke”.

One said it was “absolutely baffling”.
