Driver pleads guilty to causing death of Nottinghamshire woman

A driver has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a 55-year-old woman by careless driving.

Wojciech Sokolowski entered his plea at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday, September 9, and the case was adjourned for sentencing.

Details of the charge read out to him in the dock revealed he was driving a vehicle when he caused the death by careless driving of Diane Bull on Monday, March 18, 2019.

It was reported at the time Diane Bull, nee Teasdale, of Cropwell Bishop, was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash which happened in Stragglethorpe Road, Cotgrave. She later died from her injuries.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the crash at around 3.40pm and the road was closed until the following morning at around 2.30am on Tuesday, March 19.

The case against Sokolowski has progressed through the magistrates' court and was sent to the crown court for a plea and trial preparation hearing this morning.

Sokolowski, 37, of Amesbury Circus, Aspley, appeared in the dock wearing a face mask as he was identified and the charge was put to him through a Polish interpreter.

Jon Fountain, prosecuting, said: "The Crown would be applying for the sentencing hearing to be adjourned allowing for the attendance of Miss Bull's family".

Judge Stuart Rafferty QC said: "We will aim to hear the case on October 13".

The judge directed "a full all-options pre-sentence report be prepared".

He said: "That is no indication of the sentence that will be passed. Ultimately it is simply to help the court and counsel when they make submissions to me".

Sokolowski was granted bail with the condition he cooperates with the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
