Driver 'passed out' before truck smash

A Mercedes-Benz after it rear-ended a broken down furniture truck stopped on an elevated expressway shoulder in Nonthaburi yesterday.

A Mercedes-Benz rear-ended a broken-down furniture truck stopped on an elevated expressway shoulder, sending two people hurtling over the guard rail to their deaths in Nonthaburi province yesterday morning.

The crash was reported at 9.10am on the inbound side of the Srirat expressway leading to Ngam Wong Wan, above Wat Bua Khwan.

The black car hit two men standing at the back of the stalled pickup truck, sending them plummeting down on to a furniture shop below the expressway. A third man was not injured, as he was standing elsewhere.

Two women were in the Mercedes-Benz, one elderly and the other thought to be in her 30s. It was reported later that the elderly woman passed out while driving, and crashed into the truck.

The woman was admitted to hospital with chest pains. The police are examining surveillance camera footage for more details.
